How Fishing has Influenced Your Life: A Personal Perspective

By Sophia the SeaMonster on Dec 31, 2022

Like every life situation, fishing makes us learn new things and helps us improve our lives. So in some ways, letting fishing influence us is inevitable - getting food, having a fun leisure time, and enjoying the natural environment, all included. But I bet most of us would have missed noticing the hidden impacts fishing, especially angling, makes on our lives.

You only need to be mindful of the entire process, as I used to do.

For me, fishing brought lots of good - and bad - experiences, which I would like to share with you in this post. Also, I can confidently say I tried my best to use the negatives of fishing to my advantage by developing a positive-thinking mindset. So, let’s dive into it right away!

How Has Fishing Influenced My Life? A Personal Journey

It Connected Me with Nature

I’ve been a nature lover since childhood, but starting fishing took this love to the next level.

Today, many ASMR watering falling sound videos are available on YouTube, but those who stay connected to the water get the real benefits of the scene. Staying away from the hectic life routine and closer to nature gave me different mental and spiritual peace. I won’t be wrong saying, “invisible dose of peace.”

It Helped Me Built Gratitude

One idea was constantly hovering in my mind while I was preparing for my first fishing venture. That was: I would just throw the baited hook onto the water, wait for a few minutes, and suddenly after a few minutes, I’ll take home my big, fresh fish.

To my goodness, the same happened. Though I was lucky enough, not an expert, for this to happen.

The next fishing session was the total opposite. At this point, I was so disappointed. But after a few hours of sadness, an idea hit me.

“It’s not the end of life. I didn’t deserve even my first fish for the very first time. I have the time to make myself better and try the next time.” “Thank God, I captured a big fish last time even though my companions didn’t get even a single one after spending a full dedicated day there.”

It Helped Me Stay in the Present Moment

It has two dimensions. I have to stay in the present moment when I prepare for fishing, during the capturing process, and after I get some fish home.

The more I stay in the present moment, the more I stay focused. And this directly translates to heightened chances of success.

As I built the skill from fishing, I now implement it in another field.

It Helped Me Boost Patience

This is your best bet if you have to memorize just one point out of this piece. If someone asks me what fishing is all about, I would always say, in the first place, “being patient.”

As I learned patience, I can use it in other areas along with fishing itself.

It Increased My Strength (both mentally and physically)

So the point for ‘mental’ health is quite clear in the above sections. Your mind adapts to some (if not a lot) of the most paying-off generic skills you can determine your success based on in many areas of your life.

From the physical health perspective, you’ve probably known that the nutrition you get from seafood is immensely good for your physical health. So whether you’re trying to shed a few pounds or wanting an energy boost long-term, fish or other seafood is the key.

Wrapping Up

Some of the impacts fishing made in my life may be something that you’ve been experiencing or noticed happened to you. If not, it’s time to remember how fishing has been to me, and then become mindful during and after your fishing ventures to reap some extra benefits!
